The Congress on Thursday submitted a notice for a no-confidence motion against the 15-month-old BJP government in Odisha in accordance with Rule 117(1) of the Assembly procedures, pointing out its failures in governance, growing unemployment, corruption in public offices, and inertia in implementing development schemes.

The party MLAs, led by the legislature party leader, Rama Chandra Kadam, met Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Rout and submitted a petition seeking a ‘no-confidence motion’ against the BJP government on the opening day of the monsoon session of the State Assembly.

Congress legislature party leader Kadam said the party moved the motion as the people in the state are exasperated by the government’s failure in multiple areas. He added that the motion aligns with people’s sentiment, as the government has failed to deliver.

“This House expresses no confidence in the present Council of Ministers led by Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, the no-confidence notice submitted by the Congress noted.

The Biju Janata Dal, the principal Opposition party in the state, is, however, yet to make its stand clear on whether to support the motion.

“BJD always stands for the people and raises issues concerning them. The Congress party has not officially apprised us of the proposal. Once they do so, it will be deliberated upon at the party level”, Chief Whip Pramila Mallik said.
